Frequently Asked Questions

 

1.  Q:  I can't find the JAD shortcut or the programme isn't listed

A:  Most of the time this is due to an upgrading of  JAVA.  Try the following:

Depending on the operating system (MAC or Windows), you just need to re-create the shortcut.  Firstly, you may need to adjust the settings in JAVA.
PC:  Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Java and open the Java folder.  Then go to the Advanced Tab>Shortcut Creation>Select Always Allow.
 
 MAC: Go to Applications>Utilities>Java>Java Webstart>Select JavaWebStart from the file menu>Preferences>Desktop Applications Options>Select Always Integrate
 
The next step is to create the shortcut:
 
 PC:  Go to START>Run and type in javaws -viewer (there is a space between "s" and the - sign).  Once it opens, select the JA symbol, right click and select "Install Shortcuts". 


 MAC:  Go to Applications>Utilities>Java>Java Webstart> Select the JAD Symbol from the list of programs > Select JavaWebStart from the file menu>Applications > Create Desktop Shortcut

 

2.  Q: How do I get the latest version of JAD?

A: If you are running the JavaWebStart Version and are connected to the internet when you open JAD, it should automatically update.  Go to Help>About.  It should read:

Version 1.6.XX Webstart (PC) or (MAC)

If you have CD version, this is no longer supported and you should download the latest version from www.jadesigner.com

Next:

1.   Check your internet connection, close JAD & open again & repeat if JAD does not update.

2.   Go to www.jorgensenalbums.com   Downloads  -  JA Designer Software enter your details & download

3.  Q: I'm having trouble downloading JAD

A: See Trouble Shooting.  Also, JAD may not download with some browsers suchas Firefox.  Try switching to Internet Explorer.

4.  Q: My computer seems to run slower with JAD running

A: First, check you are running enough RAM.  The minimum required for JAD 1.5 is 1GB.  Less than this will compromise the efficient running of JAD.  If you are, try closing programmes that you are not using.  If you're running Photoshop and JAD together, this alone will chew up your RAM.

Also check the Cache Management.  It might be a good idea to clear old cached thumbnails.

(File > Image Cache Management > Select a Clean up option > Clean up Cache)

5.  Q: Some of my images are blacked out

A: 1. Check that the images are not TIFF in CMYK.  If so, change to RGB.  Also check if images have not been edited and have been saved as 16 bit.  If so, change back to 8 bit.

2. Try re-saving the file/s with new names and re-importing into JAD

6.  Q: The prints I get back from the lab don't fit the mat layout

A: Normally this happens when the lab has not printed your images to size i.e. they have stretched them to fit a particular size paper.  If you have exported the images as, for example,  11x14,  then ask the lab to print them to size and not to alter them at all.  Occasionally, with some labs, there is a stretching, normally in the width of a millimeter or two.  This can normally be fixed by lab.

7.  Q: How do I know if my order has gone through for the album?

A: Once you press the "Send Order" button, JAD will reply with a confirmation number and also an email, if you have added your email address under Album Properties.  If you are unsure, check the Album Properties and if there is an order number there, you know it has been sent.

8.  Q: Once an order has been placed, can I change it?

A: It is possible to change an order in JAD after it has been placed.....though do this with caution.  Firstly, if you change the order and try to re-send it, JAD will warn you that the order has already been placed.  Secondly, unless you notify us that the order has been amended, we will make an entire new album with the changes.  Do not assume that because we receive an ammended order that the first album has not already been started.  Please check with Jorgensen Albums before proceeding.

9.  Q: My computer locks up or JAD freezes when designing an album

A:  More often than not, this is a memory issue (RAM).  Even if you have loads of memory try one of the links below to see if that helps:

10.  Q:  Some of the functions in JAD don't work at all or only partially

A:   This sometimes occurs after downloading an upgrade OR updating your version from the web and a file gets corrupted.  The best solution is to download a fresh version of JAD from www.jadesigner.com  Failing that, check that you have the latest version of Java:  For PC users go to  www.java.com .  For MAC users go to Apple Icon and select updates.

11.  Q:  My Computer has locked up and the album I was working on won't open

A:   Go to File>Backups and look for the album you were working on.  NOTE: It will only appear if you saved it.

12.  Q:  I don't have Adobe Acrobat Writer

A:  A shareware version of a PDF writer is available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

This is not from Adobe and is NOT an Adobe product

 

13.  Q: How do I request a Pro Version Key?

A: Follw the steps below ; (NOTE - All key requests MUST be made from the computer JAD is installed on)

1. Make sure you have the latest version of JAD  - Help > About

    Current version :  VERSION 1.9.2  / 22 June 2009

If you dont have this version then you will need to uninstall JAD and download a new version.

2. Then go to File > Activation / Registration > Request Activation Code

3. Fill in your details making sure your email is correct - Your key will be sent to the email provided. MAKE SURE IT'S CORRECT!!!

4. Select Pro Version and enter in your Credit Card details. NOTE - if you are requesting a pre paid key then select payment type as "Pre-Paid"

5. Check your details and press next.

All key requests will take ONE FULL business day to process.

 

14.  Q: Can I use JAD if I dont have Java 5 or 6?

A: The current version of JAD will only install with JAVA 5 or 6. If you are using an earlier version, i.e. JAVA 4, then you can download a limited version of JAD via this link.  However, this is not recommended and not supported.

15.  Q: I have downloaded JAD but now I want to use it without being on the internet, how?

A: You can run JAD offline however you need to be connected to the internet when sendig the order.

  • MAC users should right click on the JAD launch file and select Open with > Java Webstart.
  • Windows users need to open JAVA from their control panel > Temporary internet files > View > Right click on the JAD icon > Run Offline
